One Day Closer

Shane Morosse

Born in Calgary Alberta in 1957. My father was a carpenter and my mother was a housewife. I am the second of three children.

At the age of two, we left Calgary and moved to Edmonton. We lived in Edmonton for a couple of years. We then moved to Evansburg, which is west of Edmonton. We stayed with my uncle while my father was building the house on the farm. We lived on a farm until I was 7 years of age. After leaving the farm, we lived in Drayton Valley for a little while and then back to Edmonton.

We moved to a few other places in Edmonton until I was 13. I then moved back out to the farm to live with my uncle. As I think back, my uncle was a big influence on my life. His name was Albert.

There are so many memories of the time spent with Albert. He was a unique man. We didn't have much in ways of material wealth. I realize now, that we didn't need it.

Attended High School in St Albert and Evansburg.

During my years in Evansburg, was where I first got involved in music. Together with, Kim Horton on keys, John Woroschuk, and Craig Yakimchuk on guitar, Alan Szautner on guitar and myself on drums, a band was formed. We played weekends and weddings. It was a pivotal point in my life.

Of the teachers that I recall the most, and had the most influence on me, I would have to say that Kim Horton is at the top of the list.

Little did I know that this part of my life would lead me to show business.

Through my early adult years, I had done many jobs. I worked up in the Arctic on a seismic drilling rig. Worked as a carnival roustabout. Drove a tow truck in Leduc. Worked with a Hypnotist (Gene Delfonte). During which time I had taught ballroom dancing.

I moved back to Edmonton at the age of 21. During which time I again held down many different jobs. Administrator for a gymnastics center, bartender in a hotel, taxis driver, transit-bus driver, limousine chauffeur, and truck driver, and worked in a nightclub. During this time, I had taken up fashion modeling.

The beginning of my career in show business. I give credit to one individual that helped me start it all, Don Johnston, a piano player and singer. It was his influence that helped me get started in singing and photography.

After singing in the nightclub where Don Johnston performed, it was time to spread my wings. I entered contests through C.F.C.W. Radio, performed at Danny Hooper's Stock Yard as well as other venues. Modeled in a few fashion shows and performed in a couple of theatre productions. Still I had not found my cliché.

In August of 1979, I met a man, who to this day, is the most influential part of my life. Dan Morin. His family will always be a big part in my life.

After deciding to put my entertaining life on hold, I had done other jobs. Worked in a men's clothing store. Still this brought me back to show business. Did modeling down in Lethbridge, Alberta. Did some extra acting jobs in movies, Superman III with Chris Reeves,, Chatatqua Girl (C.B.C.) and a few others. I had worked on a theatre production called eternally yours. Even took some training to be a stunt man, which didn't work out too well.

I moved back to Edmonton and held down yet other jobs, from advertising, marketing and promotions as a photographer, and graphic artist, driving a truck, and construction. Went to college and received a diploma in travel and tourism. Some how I felt this was not meant for me.

It was in 1983 that I bought a guitar for the purpose of learning songs to sing around a campfire, as I was spending my summers white water rafting with Mirage Adventure Tours . It was in the fall of 1985 after the rafting season was finished that I returned back to Edmonton.

This is when I got my chance to perform professionally.

I started out performing in out of the way bars throughout Alberta. Such places as Lodgepole, Smith, Plamondon, Hinton, and others. Entered in more singing contests, and found my gliche'.

My passions are in music, photography, ghost towns of the gold rush, panning for gold, hiking, skydiving, white water rafting, camping, and travel.

I can't say that I have a major influence in music, but I enjoy the music styles of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Garth Brooks, The Band, Eagles, Doobie Brothers,

BB King, Muddy Waters, Frank Sinatra, Clint Black, Alabama, Shania Twain, Travis Tritt, George Strait, Barbara Streisand, and many more.
